Fun Fremocentrist Blog Feature on Larry (who works in our Seattle Daly's Paint & Decorating store!!)
Fremont, where the Seattle Daly's Paint & Decorating store is located, is a great neighborhood that celebrates individualism and actively promotes it's unique qualities. Where else on earth will you find the Troll Under the Bridge, The Center of The Universe (really!), and other wacky symbols that let you know this is a different place?
It is also populated with colorful people that help make this a neighborhood to enjoy. The 'Fremocentrist' blog is powered by Kirby Lindsay - if you want to know what's going on, who's doing what, and where things are happening, she's your Girl Friday.
Kirby recently wrote a nice piece on Larry - who just happens to work at Daly's and live in the neighborhood. He's a real Fremonster. We've always enjoyed having colorful people working at Daly's, and it's nice to see that recognized elsewhere, too!

Daly's Paint and Pratt & Lambert - A Colorful Connection!
I want to share with you an article that just appeared in Pratt & Lambert's Personal Expressions magazine. Featured is our NEW Bellevue Daly's store - we are so proud of it, and very pleased that P&L thought it looked good enough to put in their national publication.

Facebook | Daly's Paint & Decorating - Quick spruce-up Tip from Daly's
Here's a quick spruce-up tip from our Daly's Facebook page:
Facebook Daly's Paint & Decorating: " In-laws coming? Uninspiring guest room? Blah bathroom? Here's my favorite spruce-up trick...The Feature Wall. Instead of repainting an entire room, find a lovely color and paint it on one wall only. This is a great way to create a focal point (and a favored trick to redierect the eye from flaws in the room) and it adds... a fresh look without too much effort. (I'm all about avoiding TOO MUCH EFFORT during the holidays!)"

Evolution of a Paint Store
This spring we moved from Downtown Bellevue (where we have been since 1961) over to the Northup neighborhood. We looked for almost 2 years before we found the right place to call 'home'. But it was worth the wait!
We love our new digs and our new neighbors. What we weren't sure about was how moving a business that had been on the same corner since 1978 would transpire.
Luckily, no major disasters occurred. Well - we lost one of our tint machines because the movers tipped it over while unloading it. Oops.
But we kept our sense of humor and got the new store up and running. The worst part? Cleaning up 30+ years of crusty tint room build-up in the old place!

We Just Can't Post It
One of the fun things the staff has been doing lately is come up with creative headlines for the reader-board on the Seattle Daly's sign. Being a creative staff, the sayings aren't always... shall we say, 'tasteful'. The challenge is to use a C2 Paint or Daly's Products reference in the headline.
So in that spirit, here is my favorite saying that you WON'T be seeing on the Daly's sign:
We Don't Take "Shiitake" From Nobody
See what I mean?

Daly's SeaFin Rocks - again!
I just Googled Daly's SeaFin and found a neat little chat about SeaFin on the Continuous Wave website, a site for avid boat owners.
The concerns: Can you use SeaFin on brightwork in high sun areas like Florida (answer: yes) - and tips for application.
Cool!

Brand Identity

I'm reading an interesting article about brand identity and the adventure/risk of rebranding in Inc. magazine.
It's very relevant to what I am working on right now with both the Daly's Wood Finishes labels and C2 Paint. I have only read part of the article, I can't wait to finish it and see if there is anything I can learn from Dave's Insanity Hot Sauce company's experience...
If anything, our adventures with redesign are exciting, nerve-wracking, and can leave one a bit tired and jaded. Why jaded? There is the snake-oil aspect of branding that one needs to be cautious of buying into. Most important to me is trying to communicate a genuineness behind the gloss.
